At Humanity Cash, our mission is to create a circular economy powered by Universal Basic Income (UBI) and community currencies, which are local payment networks that ensure that every dollar strengthens local economies.
Number of new businesses have declined by half since the 1980s.
We’ve lost more than half of our community banks since 2000. Community banks are crucial to small business loans.
Local mom and pop shops are strained by high credit card fees especially as cash use has declined.
Of every dollar of deposit goes back to local communities ...
... that support small businesses, local farms and local commercial developments

BerkShares is one of the most well-known community currencies in the world that has operated in Berkshire County, Massachusetts since 2006. BerkShares is now going digital with Humanity Cash. We work with the community banks to hold cash reserves, and the Schumacher Center, the local non-profit whose research supports the BerkShares program.
With digital BerkShares, we strive to provide the convenience and cost savings of digital, while maintaining the romance of cash. A more beautiful and elegant technology should free us to slow down. A transaction is no longer a commodification but a reminder of the small miracle of being with our neighbors.
Each of us, no matter where we are from, can contribute to the richness of our communities by participating in its governance, social fabric and economic vibrancy. From Berlin to the Berkshires, New York to Amsterdam, all made with love.
